The installation itself usually takes 2 to 3 working days for a typical yard, spread over about a week so the concrete around the posts can set. The lead-up takes longer: the estimate, the permit, the Blue Stakes notice and a place on the schedule.
What happens, in order
- Free on-site estimate with measurements and a written quote.
- City permit, plus Planning approval in a local historic district or HOA approval where needed.
- Blue Stakes of Utah 811 request, at least 48 business hours before digging. Allow three business days.
- Posts are set in concrete and left to cure.
- Rails, panels and gates go on. We clean up and walk the fence with you.
What slows a fence job down in Salt Lake City?
- April through June, when the snow is gone and everyone calls at once.
- Historic district review or a slow HOA committee.
- Cobble on the benches, tree roots and old concrete footings.
- Deep frost or snow cover in the middle of winter.
- Special-order colors, custom gates and gate operators.
We are getting a dog in three weeks and have no fence. What is fastest?
Call today, because the permit and the Blue Stakes wait use up part of those three weeks. Materials that suppliers keep in stock, such as chain link and standard wood pickets, are quickest. If the whole yard cannot be finished in time, we can fence a smaller area off the back door first and complete the rest after.
We are putting in a pool. Fence before or after?
Design them at the same time and build the fence in two stages. The excavator needs a wide opening to get equipment in, so that stretch is left out until the pool is dug. The barrier then has to be finished and inspected before the pool gets its final approval.
My association says fix the fallen panels by Monday and my contractor keeps delaying. Can a handyman patch it?
Yes, a handyman patch on a fence you own is your decision, and it normally meets the association's deadline. Check your contract first and tell the contractor in writing what you are doing and why. That keeps it clear later which work was theirs.
The only way to get a real price for your yard is a free on-site estimate. Call (385) 402-8455 or text us a photo of the fence line.
